Selfish London

Case Study: Selfish London

Included: Web design, custom coding, branding and SEO

When I was first approached by Selfish London to make a new website for their Shoreditch and Spitalfield salons, I was extremely excited. Their nail art is exceptional - creative, intricate and also practical?!? I didn’t know there was a place in London that offers exciting nail art for people who prefer to keep their nails short, like me! How’s a gal supposed to play the keyboard with talons?

Selfish had created the site when the salon was first opened, and it was pretty clunky. What it excelled in though, was SEO, so I made it a priority to keep the site’s urls and copy exactly as they were. There was a lot of copy, so the main challenge was figuring out a way of presenting it in a more user-friendly way. We had to manipulate Squarespace’s Menu block a bit to make it do exactly what we wanted. The results are clickable pop-up menus across the site, as well as a dedicated pricing page that can also be viewed via QR codes. Similarly, I coded some booking buttons that follow you around the site, so when you decide you want to book, it couldn’t be easier!

Challenge number two was photos. Selfish is my third website completed under lockdown, and one of the reasons they picked me to do the website was because I include photography in my price. I desperately want to do a London nail art photoshoot, and still plan to, but in the meantime, I chose appropriate stock imagery, paired with colour-graded images from Selfish’s old website and Instagram.

The result is a sleek, updated salon website and I’m super proud of it!
